Keynote Session
November 4, 2024| 8:30 a.m.

Life is full of obstacles, some come to us at an early stage in life, some throughout our adulthood. Obstacles in life can be used in one of two ways: AS FIRE to SURVIVE or as an EXCUSE to halt us from achieving to the best of our ability. Both youth & adults experience social and emotional barriers that may prevent them from overcoming and learning from life. Counselors will learn what it means to become a hero for themselves in everything that we do and speak, then transfer that effect unto our students, creating a sense of belonging that engages them in a place that reaches hearts first.

Born and raised in the projects, Rizo’s life experiences have created a profound commitment within to nurture both emotional and intellectual growth and create a transformative learning experience with her audiences. Her messages on overcoming poverty, mental illness, an identity crisis, and a lack of self-love reach the hearts of youth and adults. A former teacher and school counselor, Rizo aims to inspire youth to be boundless in overcoming obstacles and be their true authentic self. She strives to inspire adults to reach hearts before minds and face their own challenges head on with tenacity, while championing their own well-being. Rizo is currently a doctoral candidate in Social-emotional Learning at National University and looking forward to becoming Dr. Rizo Speaks Life.
